Back in Business
Wow. Has it really been nearly two months since my last entry? I'm sorry. When I mentioned in my last post how it's difficult for me to write when I'm not riding, I was really telling the truth.
But now that I've been back on the bike for a couple of weeks, I feel ready to write again. It is strange to me that things as different as writing and riding should be related, but I have a theory on why it is: it seems that motocross gives my entire brain a jump start. Not just while I'm on the track or even on the trip home, but for maybe a few days. A good riding session wakes up my senses in a way that makes serious thinking and concentrating--the very things that drive writing--come a little more naturally.
After riding Mustang this past Sunday, I felt like I had gotten back to equilibrium. I had had a lot of fun on the track, caught up with some friends, and finally gotten back that jolt of electricity that only riding seems to give. I figure this must be why serious riders usually have such a hard time quitting motocross (even when their doctors insist): there are just not that many things that compare to the type of engagement and exhiliration that a rider finds on a motocross track. And if you get accustomed to those feelings, it's hard to fully feel like yourself without regularly experiencing them. So we keep going back.
Thanks to everyone who stopped me to say hello at Mustang, and a big thanks also to my friend Richie West--he set me up with a sweet new lid to replace the one I wrecked in my crash, and also gave me some new graphics to freshen up my ride. I haven't put them on yet, but I'll get them on soon. I could use a new look to go with my new (old) feelings.

Hey Mr. Beaupre,
Been checking out your site and enjoy the reads. This article really hits it on the nose. I just began riding the 38+ jr class and after a 20 yr lay off. Riding again has completely changed my life. I enjoy all the trials and tribulations of getting me and my son to the events on Sundays.
Take care and hope to meet you soon at the track.

Thanks, Carl. Sorry it's taken me awhile to get back to you--I get so much junk mail on the blog it's hard to sort out the good stuff. I hope to meet you at the track sometime too--I ride a #716 CRF450.
