Mammoth Lakes, California; June 15-25
Bobby Garrison (9) and Aron Harvey (#76 below) collected the highest finishes among Nevada riders at the 2006 Mammoth Mountain Motocross, with each rider posting multiple top-ten results at the hyper-competitive event.
Garrison earned top-ten scores in all three Pro classes, earning seventh in the 250cc class, sixth in the 125cc race and an especially impressive third in the Open division behind 250cc winner and eight-time national champ Jeremy McGrath (#2 below) and 125cc winner Josh Hill (#175 below.)
Harvey posted a fifth-place finish in the 125cc Intermediate class and a fourth in the Open Intermediate race. Harvey was also running fourth in the 250cc main before a hard crash halted him. Harvey reportedly sustained a concussion but was otherwise OK.
The most impressive performances of the week belonged to Jeremy McGrath (who easily topped the 250cc, Open and Vet Pro classes,) Josh Hill (who claimed the 125cc Pro win,) and Ben LaMay (who, in what might be a record at Mammoth, won four classes: Schoolboy, 125cc, 250cc and Open Intermediate. He is #426 below.)
Here are more local riders who took top-ten finishes:
