Fernley, Nevada; March 13, 2005

The jump from minicycles to full-sized bikes isn’t easy for most riders, but Tyler York (114) looked as though he’s been riding a CRF250R all his life as he rode to victory in the 125cc Junior class at round four of the MX West Spring Series.

York, who was a top minicycle pilot in the area just months ago, put in two confident rides for a perfect 1-1 score. The race was not without challenges for York, however, as Suzuki pilot Chris Wear tested him in a second-moto battle where the overall win hung in the balance.

After York rode to a runaway win in the first moto, Wear, who finished second in moto one, grabbed the second-moto holeshot and tried to break away from York early. Wear succeeded in pulling a slight advantage early in the race, but the ever-persistent York reeled in Wear around mid-moto and began applying pressure. Wear hung tough until the second-to-last lap when he overshot a turn and handed the victory to York. Wear recovered for second, and Trent Renner piloted his Honda to third overall.

In Intermediate action, Wes Peebles put in four dominating performances aboard his Troy Lee Designs/Pro Circuit/Schmidt Performance/Kurt Henricksen MX Schools/Stomp Designs-backed Suzuki to claim 1-1 victories in the 250cc Intermediate and Schoolboy classes. Peebles has his eye toward success at the amateur nationals this summer, and he proved to be a step above his fellow Intermediates on this day.

“(I felt) pretty good,” Peebles said after his final moto. “My arms held up with no arm pump, so I was able to go hard through all of my motos.”

Ryan Eager topped the 125cc Intermediate class over the early challenges of Andrew Valdez. Travis McIver rode to third overall.

The Vet classes featured an impressive ride from Aaron Bissell as rode to decisive wins in both motos of the 30+ Intermediate class. Bissell has improved steadily since turning Intermediate, and looked very comfortable on this day, even as the Fernley course turned rougher toward the end of the day. Jim Koschella grabbed second behind Bissell, and Marvin Small scored third. Just ahead of the Intermediates, Anthony Pulera took the 30+ Expert victory over Kevin Knight and Marcus Gentry.
