Silver Peak MX Prospector Series Round One
Stead, Nevada; March 4, 2007

Following a stint contesting the AMA Supercross Series, Nathan Tiearney (173) burst back onto the local scene with a six-moto sweep in the 250F, 450F and 25+ Pro classes.

Tiearney held a rapid and composed pace throughout the day, even as an impressive Tony Evans applied pressure in parts of the 250F and 450F motos. Tiearney and Evans put a healthy distance on the field in nearly every case, with Evans always stalking the fast-starting Tiearney. Yet Evans was never able to make a move for the lead until the second 250F moto, and that attempt ended badly as he slid out while diving for an inside line.

The move knocked Evans out of contention in that class, but he still managed to grab the second spot in the 450F class with a 2-2 tally. Ryan Eager claimed third in that race via a 3-3, and capitalized on Evans’ miscue in the second 250F moto to grab second overall with a 3-2.

Tiearney’s 25+ performance marked two firsts for the Big Valley Honda-backed pilot: his first race in a Vet class, and his first win in a Vet class. But despite his new Vet-class eligibility, Tiearney has no intentions of slowing down: he plans to be back on the line for the 250F class at the Seattle Supercross, looking for the main-event spot that narrowly eluded him in the early rounds of the series.

Adam Conway took the 250F and 450F Intermediate victories, battling Brian Bodden and Zak Riley throughout much of the day. Conway’s narrowest win came in the first 250F moto, in which Riley, who had battled Conway the entire race, fell while making a desperate, last-corner attempt at the win. Bodden moved by the fallen Riley to claim second in that moto, and then beat Riley heads-up in the following one to earn second overall. Riley scored third with a 3-3.

Brian Sjogren ruled the Mini ranks, topping the 85cc Intermediate, Open and Supermini races aboard his Team Green Kawasaki. Sjogren also rode to second overall in the 250F Junior class, which brought him to a hefty total of eight motos on the day. Ryan Joy topped that 125cc Junior race aboard his CRF250, and Chris Samson garnered third.

The Women’s class featured one of the most even match-ups of the day, as Robbie Cortez and Elysia Ulrich battled throughout both motos. Cortez eventually took both moto wins, but in each case, Ulrich kept her Honda on Cortez’s rear wheel to the finish to claim a very close second.
