While a 1-1 victory constitutes a perfect day for most motocrossers, Aron Harvey wanted more at round five of the MX West Spring Series--so he entered three classes to score an even more perfect 1-1-1-1-1-1 to top the Schoolboy and 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes.
Harvey hardly had the need to pull a tear-off throughout his six motos, save for the first lap and a half of the first 125cc Intermediate moto (see photo.) In that race, Lyle Anderson (115) grabbed the early lead and put up impressive resistance to the relentless pursuit of Harvey (7z) in the early stages, though Harvey eventually made the pass and moved away to establish a considerable lead.
In the second 125cc moto, it was Harvey from start to finish. The battle for second overall unfolded between friends as Anderson and Scott Polan diced throughout the moto, with Polan getting the nod at the end. Anderson hung on for a hard-fought third.
The 250cc and Schoolboy races were rather uneventful for Harvey, as he simply rode to comfortable leads in each moto. Ryan Eager brought home second in the 250cc contest, and Chris Voltl took the runner-up spot in the Schoolboy race.
“I felt good,” Harvey said. “I was just really happy that the mud dried off the track. It was so nice after that. It was awesome.”
The reference to mud was the result of early morning snow showers that threatened to turn the race into a mudder early, though the weather eventually held off long enough for the track to dry to perfection.
In 85cc action, the four riders in the Intermediate class were often close enough to have worn the same rain poncho, had they chosen to. In the end, though, it was Zak Riley, who was racing aboard a brand-new Honda, who eventually set himself apart to take the win ahead of Parker Dallas. Riley also claimed the Supermini win, this time ahead of Wayne Appleton.
The Vet classes saw Kevin Knight put on an impressive ride to take the 30+ Expert victory, topping Anthony Pulera in a fierce second-moto battle for the overall win. Pulera applied pressure to Knight for much of the moto, but eventually settled for second behind the determined Knight.
