MX West Triple Crown Series Round Two
Stead, Nevada; July 29, 2006

Gavin Clouser (701) and Evan Olsen might as well have been glued together throughout both motos of the 50cc Open class, so it wasn’t surprising when the battle came done to the last lap of the second moto--with a dramatic last-ditch pass by Clouser for the win.

After Olsen withstood Clouser’s pressure in the first moto, which included a similar last-lap attempt on which Olsen shut the door, the determined Clouser hounded Olsen throughout the second moto. It looked as though Olsen might hold on again until the waning moments of the race when Clouser found the right line and forced his way past, seizing what was undoubtedly a satisfying victory.

Interestingly, both riders rode well during the rest of the night, but not in the same class. Clouser went on to take the 50cc Intermediate win and Olsen took the 50cc Junior win. Although, after his performance in the Open motos, it would not be surprising to see Olsen also making his mark in the higher Intermediate ranks sometime very soon.

The Pro classes saw another romp by Nathan Tiearney, who handily won all four motos in the 125cc and 250cc contests aboard his new Big Valley Honda-backed CRFs. Tiearney also wowed the crown by consistently jumping a massive quad that few other pros dared to attempt at all.

Rory Krein put in a stellar ride ahead of a freight train of hungry pros to claim second in the 250cc race and Donnie Weber grabbed second in the 125cc division.

Chris Grant emerged as the winner of the action-packed Schoolboy motos, taking the victory with a steady 1-2 score. His fastest competitor, second-moto winner Reece Honea, lost his chance at a top overall finish when he finished poorly in the first round. Johnny Vallerio piloted a borrowed Yamaha to second and Martin Kite earned third.
