Racing three classes in a day is no easy feat, but Brian Sjogren and Aron Harvey (7z) each took on three classes at round nine of the MX West Nevada State Championship Series--and won every one of them.
Sjogren took victories in the 60cc Intermediate, Super 60cc and 80cc Junior classes, and Harvey claimed wins in the 125cc Intermediate, 250cc Intermediate, and Schoolboy ranks.
Sjogren faced challenges in the 60cc classes from Jesse Masterpool, a rider small in stature but enormous in heart and aggression. Masterpool led Sjogren occasionally, putting up a tremendous fight each time. But Sjogren eventually put his KTM 65 on top in both classes with patience and a deceivingly smooth style. Masterpool took second overall in both divisions.
Sjogren scored his 80cc Junior win with less of a challenge as he glided to both moto wins aboard his YZ85. Sjogren was relaxed enough after the second moto to joke a bit when he was asked what he has been doing to improve.
“Well, I just got a new helmet,” Sjogren said. “And I’ve been practicing a lot the last couple weeks out here at Stead, which is my home track. I’m feeling pretty good.”
Harvey, who has recently dominated the Intermediate ranks in the series, continued on as the man to beat aboard his Yamahas. Harvey put together great starts and effortless form to claim his three wins.
Harvey had so much speed that he was a threat for a top-three finish in the Pro class in each moto--despite starting several seconds behind on the second gate.
Ryan Eager followed Harvey for second in the 250cc Intermediate and Schoolboy classes and Ryan Ferris claimed the runner-up spot in the 125cc race.
