The Year in Photos: 2006

Sadly, 2006 was not a banner year for northern Nevada motocross, as a sanctioning body split, track closures and high gas prices conspired to reduce the turnout at most events. Yet there were still great races and great riders to be found, and even some good photos as well. Below are some of my favorites from 2006, which I have blown up and recropped, allowing the minute details of 2006 to be viewed in greater detail. They are best viewed in full screen.

Enjoy:

Nathan Tiearney made a welcome return in 2006 from the two broken ankles he suffered in the summer of 2005.

Jimmy Nelson did northern Nevada proud in '06, winning a Canadian MX2 title and, to date, two BooKoo arenacross main events.

Clayton Peterson established himself as a top local prospect in 2006.

It wasn't a banner year for the two-stroke either, but some--such as J.L. Bitz--made beautiful music of the two-stroke swan song.

Aron Harvey put in solid results at the amateur nationals and earned a Yamaha support ride for '07.

You didn't have to be a grown-up to drop the hammer in 2006--just look at Gavin Clouser.

Bobby Garrison was yet another of the standouts of 2006, earning second in the WORCS series and national motocross number 69.

Mike Mason was one of the most prominent freestyle riders of 2006...

...but he wasn't the only northern Nevadan to get inverted. Paul Mudd flipped his way through much of the year.

Aron Harvey (76) and Brian Bodden (154) lead the 125cc Intermediate charge at Mustang.

Kenny Bell achieved impressive extension.

Some Fallon ruts wait patiently for riders to visit them.

February 2006 was a cold and strange time--it was snowing, and mules and utility quads were pulling holeshots.

As the sun sets on 2006, there are plenty of good times to look back on.

Where has the time gone? (Reporter photo courtesy of tagnmx.com.)
